I remember a long while ago, a friend asked me to name my three favorite things in all the world.
I told her I had a love for the beach because it was where I could go and see the power of nature in action. My second choice was a baby’s smile, perhaps one of the most honest and true expressions of love and trust on our planet. My third was Ivory Soap because of the clean, crisp smell it left on my skin. Aromatherapy in a bar.
Those things still ring true today. My belief in the power of aromatherapy, however, has never been deeper. It can change our moods and on some level, our body chemistry, I think. Perfumers work for decades perfecting their sense of smell to create that perfect scent with synthetics. Aromatherapists use essential oils and herbs for an even more heightened experience.
Harmonizing scents that once they touch the skin can change and transform to a customized fragrance is attractive to me. Finding that perfect blend is a personal search. It requires trying something new, possibly loving it....possibly hating it. But, it’s the journey that can be so much fun, as well the anticipation of discovering something new.
I can spend an entire afternoon mixing oils like palmarosa with bergamont. Or combining peppermint with basil.
This spring my son and I will replant our herb garden with a good portion of what emerges in a few weeks to be used in our soaps, body butters, bath bombs and other products. We can’t wait.
Stay tuned. We plan on posting pictures.
